The Best Molasses Softies

The Best Molasses Softies

Nothing compares to the smell of fall!  The spices, the doughnuts, the apple cider….oh so many smells to make your mouth water.  One day my sister made these Molasses Softies and my taste buds have never been the same.  I have to admit, I can’t say I cared much for Molasses cookies before that, but these are totally different!  They’ll change anyone’s mind about Molasses.

All three of my kids love them too!  Every fall they ask for them repeatedly until we have a chance to make them.  It doesn’t take long, because my husband and I like them just as much.  Just make sure to pair these cookies with a cup of coffee or hot chocolate!  They make an incredible afternoon treat.  Getting hungry?  Well let’s get started.

Ingredients

1 Cup Butter

1 1/3 Cup Sugar

Egg (1)

1/3 Cup Molasses

3 Tbsp Dark Corn Syrup

2 Tbsp Milk

4 Cups Flour

2 tsp Baking Soda

2 tsp Ground Cinnamon

1 1/2 tsp Ground Ginger

1 1/2 tsp Ground Cloves

Extra Sugar

RECIPE FOR MOLASSES SOFTIES

Making Molasses Softies

Begin by adding the butter, sugar and egg and mix until light and fluffy.

Next add molasses, dark corn syrup and Milk.  Mix until well blended.

After that, add the rest of the ingredients.

The dough will look crumbly, but no worries, that is normal!

After everything is mixed, use your hands to roll the dough into 1 to 1 1/2 inch balls.  Then drop each ball into a bowl of sugar and roll until the entire cookie is coated.

Next, place the cookie on your baking sheet and continue until all the cookies are finished.

Remember everyone’s oven is a little different….bake them according to the directions, but keep a close eye on the cookies.   I normally bake them a few minutes less, around 10 minutes.  Just don’t over cook them or they won’t be soft.

The aroma of them baking will fill your entire home!  Grab a few right away, because they will disappear quickly.  Molasses Softies are perfect to have for Halloween, or Thanksgiving….and pretty much every day in-between!  Thanks for checking out my post!
