Simple Ways To Decorate For Fall

Simple Ways To Decorate For Fall

Fall is one of my favorite times of year. From pumpkins to doughnuts, the leaves changing and of course pumpkin spice lattes.  I love so many things about fall.  Decorating can definitely be added to that list too.  I have always loved decorating….my home changes with the seasons inside as much as it does outside.

I keep it pretty simple for two reasons, I don’t want to spend a lot of money on decorations and I hate storing tons of extra stuff for the remainder of the year (hence my storage room project will be posted soon).  My décor is a mix of vintage, industrial and rustic…maybe with a little bit of sparkle.  My favorite colors are in the teal/turquoise family…partly because I love it with every season; especially paired with orange for fall.

1. Use What You Have

To decorate I like to pull out items we haven’t seen in a while.  Above I put out a few pieces of a tea set. The tea set is from my husbands side and dates back to the late 1800’s.   I also take a picture of our pumpkins every year.  Keep the picture handy and then the following year, throw it in a frame…instant décor.

2. Make It Personal

Most of the other shelves I simply tried to keep the teal and orange present to tie in with all my fall colors.  I also have a mason jar filled with Petoskey rocks my husband and I picked up on our last anniversary trip.  My shelves are filled with items that are special to us.  It is fine to mix in a few store bought things, but make sure to add some personal touches as well.

Hello Fall

My husband and I enjoy a good flea market.  On the mantel I placed an antique washboard and wooden vice we picked up on one of our trips.  The lamps I bought from Target and love because it adds just a touch of sparkle.

3. Pull Different Colors Into Your Home For Each Season

One of the best parts about decorating, is giving your rooms a different feel!  Our living and dining room is painted Standish White by Benjamin Moore (it’s the perfect yellow, soft and not too lemony).  I love to choose neutral paint colors so the decorations from each season to really stand out.  For fall I always pull in colors from outside, but the highlight of my fall decor is always orange.  Fall is the only time I add orange, and it just brings a warm and cozy feel into the house.  When Christmas hits, the orange is put away and then I highlight red.  Adding color really does give the house an entirely different feel.

4. Pull Fall Into Every Room

To pull some fall love into the kitchen, I put tiny pumpkins and gourds in a small wire basket on the island. Pumpkins and gourds are inexpensive, so have fun spreading little sprinkles of fall throughout your house and not just in one or two rooms.
