Easy DIY Speckled Eggs

Easy DIY Speckled Eggs

This week it is finally beginning to feel like spring outside, as well as inside.  I have removed the last of my winter decor and nothing adds more cheer like touches of spring and speckled eggs!  The colors alone are such a welcome transition after a long cold winter.  Last year, at the end of the season I picked up some craft eggs with the intent of creating my own speckled eggs, but never had a chance to paint them.  So this week I pulled them out and found out just how easy it was to make your own DIY speckled eggs.

When making your own speckled eggs, choosing the type of egg is the most important part.  The type of egg you buy will effect the way it looks in the end…so just keep that in mind.  These craft eggs have a little texture to them and are not as smooth as plastic eggs…which I like.  However, if you prefer smooth eggs you may want to use plastic eggs or wooden eggs.

Painting The Eggs

I decided to paint my eggs a variation of teal colors to match my spring decor.  I used the same teal and just added white to make different shades.  The dark brown paint was to create speckles.

Since the eggs were craft eggs, the paint adhered to them with no problem.

Within 10 minutes, I had finished putting one coat of paint on all the eggs.

One coat was just a little thin…so I waited for them to dry and then added a second coat.

When the eggs were dry, I was ready to add speckles.

To create speckles, I used my finger to rub the tip of brush.  I have also seen tutorials that use an old toothbrush.

I speckled all the top halves first.  Once they were dry, I flipped them over and finished by adding speckles to the bottom halves.

Finished!

This craft is really easy and inexpensive…but adds such a cute touch to your decor.
