Easy DIY Bin

Easy DIY Bin

I am at the start of a 30 Day Organizing Challenge (click on the link to join the challenge)! Adding bins is crucial to keeping things organized!  I made a quick run to the dollar store to pick up some small bins, but even that can add up if I am organizing every day of the month.  To help keep the budget in check, I wanted to try to make an easy DIY bin.

I shop at Costco, so I always have empty food boxes I can use.  The empty granola bar box is perfect to make a bin!  So I grabbed the contact paper I bought at the dollar store and the empty box.

To prep the box for contact paper, the only thing I needed to do was cut off the top tab to open it up.

Now it was ready to wrap.

Wrapping The Box

To make it easy, I simply unrolled the contact paper over the box to see how much I needed.  If you really wanted to be precise, you could trace the shape onto the inside of the contact paper and make a template.

I began on the bottom of the box and attached the contact paper.  I used my finger to smooth the paper by gliding them from the middle toward the outside.

I made a slit at the corner to fold the paper down.

Then I wrapped all the sides of the bin with one long sheet.  It was a little tricky getting it smooth all the way around, but that is the beauty of contact paper…you can lift it up again if there is a wrinkle.  Continue working at it until all the sides are wrapped.

I used scissors to trim the top of the contact paper, cutting about 1″ above the rim of the box.  Then I folded the contact paper over the top rim.

In about 5 minutes, I had created a really cute bin!

I used my bin to help organize under my kitchen sink.  I have needed something to hold all my foil and saran wrap and this size bin was perfect!

You could also use it for magazines!

Organizing doesn’t have to cost a lot!  Use what you have and be creative.  Start looking around your home and you’ll be amazed at what you can find.  Thanks for checking out my post!
