Summer Chores Checklist with Free Printable

Summer Chores Checklist with Free Printable

I love to keep our summers simple.  Relaxing evenings and plenty of time to play outside for the kids.  Schedules are so demanding on kids nowadays…summer is the perfect time to slow down.  However, that doesn’t mean voiding kids of of all responsibility like summer chores.

During the school year we have chores for our kids, so thought it would be perfect to come up with some summer chores too.  We use the chore stick system and I really like it!

Want to see how I made the chore sticks…check them out here!

When I made the chore sticks, I made several with numbers that coordinated to a list.  The list then can be changed at any time.

To change up the chores for summer, just figure out which chores you would like them to do and then print off a new sheet!

This is how we typically handle our chores.  Each child has 5 daily chores (which are written directly on the sticks), and then one weekly chores designated by the numbers.  So each day they must complete their five daily chores, plus one weekly chore.  The weekly chores coordinate with the number they draw or you can have Monday be 1, Tuesday be 2, etc.

Once the chore is completed, they flip the stick to done.

At the end of the day, the daily chores will need to be flipped back to the colored end.

Tracking Sheets

To reward your child for finishing chores each day, it is helpful to use a tracking sheet.  If they complete their chores every day, you could pay them a certain allowance or let them pick from a prize bucket.  Figuring out what motivates your child is the key.

The tracking sheets are optional of course.  The chore sticks already show you that the chores have been completed.  However, I wanted to track what books they were reading during the summer also…so I thought I would include it all on a fun tracking sheet.

*I think I am becoming addicted to printables,  probably because I always use Pic Monkey and their program is so easy to use!

My kids loved the tracking sheets.  I know staying consistent is always a battle, especially during the summer, but a little structure is good.

The thing I love most about the chore sticks is the flexibility.  They allow you to make your chores specific to the season or even just change them as your kids get older and can handle more responsibility.  With school quickly approaching, I will need to switch the chore list up once again.  But since it is so easy, I don’t dread it.

The key to a chore system is having one that works with your family and then enforcing it.   It is hard in the beginning, but once your kids get into the habit…it gets easier!  The same goes for you, it is hard to stay on top of reminding them…but it is worth it!

Well enjoy the cute tracking printables and thanks for checking out my post.
