Why You Need 4 New Recipes

Why You Need 4 New Recipes

I’ve been there, you’ve been there….you stare into the cupboard and wonder what’s for dinner.  Having a meal plan definitely helps, but it is still easy to get in a recipe rut.  You get in the habit of making the same thing over and over.  You hit mid winter and I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for some different recipes!

I have been grabbing some recipes here and there from my friends, I even bought a pork roast.

OK, let me share a little story.  When I was a little girl, I went with my family to a business open house. We walked up to the building and around the corner to the front.  As I walked around the corner, the first thing I saw was a giant roasted pig with an apple in it’s mouth.

Now I understand for most people a pig roast sounds delicious, but as a kid, it totally grossed me out.  The whole thing was right there with an apple in it’s mouth, not to mention someone was sawing meat out of the middle.

I was slightly traumatized, in a food eating somewhat over dramatic way!  Let’s just say, I never saw pork the same way.  25 years later, I still don’t care for pork because of that.  My husband laughs at me, I eat meat…I just don’t want to know where it came from and I don’t want it directly off the animal!

So yes, I actually bought a pork roast….now you see that was a big step for me.  Don’t just stop with one recipe though, throwing 4 new recipes into your mix can help you get out of the recipe rut! Pretty much that is one new recipe a week!  If you have a hard time finding new recipes, look no further.  Below I will share with you my families favorite four!!

Finding New Recipes

I love finding recipes on Pinterest!  You can search by mexican, crockpot recipes, chicken, and the list goes on.  Since I make my monthly meal plan in categories, I find it especially helpful to search that way in Pinterest.

Friends are a great resource too!  It really does help mix things up!  It’s so funny how your normal recipes are so different from your friends.  It opens up a whole new mixture of recipes.  Plus I know my friends have busy lives with young kids, so the recipes they make would most likely fit well in my busy life with kids.

Our Families 4 Favorite Recipes

So here we go, 4 meals that my family loves.

1.Chicken Tetrazinni:

This is an easy recipe that our whole family loves.  When I first started making it, my youngest wouldn’t touch it with spaghetti noodles…so I began making it with elbow noodles (apparently it looked more like macaroni and cheese).  You really can make it with any noodles, but it is delicious all the same.  Also, the leftovers heat up great!

2.Fiesta Lime Grilled Chicken:

This is one of our favorite Mexican recipes.  We normally combine it with rice and chips & salsa.  I was pleasantly surprised that all 3 kids gobbled it up, especially our girls who normally fuss about eating grilled chicken.  They all loved the added flavor of this recipe!

3.Soup!  It was a tie between the classic Vegetable Beef Soup and a new recipe for Pasta Fagioli

The crockpot vegetable beef soup recipe has been a huge hit and is one of our favorites.  This recipe mentions you can make it with vegetable juice or tomato juice….I have made it both ways and we liked it better with tomato juice.  We felt it gave it a little more flavor!

We just recently came across this recipe for Pasta Fagioli and it is delicious!!  Every time my husband had a bowl, he mentioned how much he liked it!  It was gone in no time!  As far as the recipe goes, it mentions you can make it with beef broth or chicken broth.  I made it with chicken broth and thought it tasted great.  It will definitely be added to our regular soup rotation.

4. Baked Ziti

I have to end with one of our all time favorite recipes!  If you can’t tell, we love pasta in our family.  Baked Ziti is such an easy meal to prepare and provides great leftovers for my husband to take to work.  I grabbed this recipe from the back of the pasta box years ago and so glad I did.

This recipe was on the back of a Mueller’s Ziti pasta box.  I believe they have changed their ziti recipe a little since I cut this out, but I love the original recipe, so here it is.
